About Gas Guys

Still not sure? Call (864) 415-7482. A person answers 24/7.

Are you really open 24 hours?

Yes. The phone is answered around the clock, seven days a week, including nights, weekends and holidays. Customers have reached a person at 2am on a Sunday. Call and you will talk to someone who can tell you what happens next.

What areas do you serve?

We are based in Spartanburg County and work all across it, first and foremost Spartanburg, Boiling Springs, Inman, Moore and Chesnee, along with Arcadia, Campobello, Clifton, Converse, Cowpens, Drayton, Duncan, Fingerville, Glendale, Gramling, Greer, Holly Springs, Landrum, Lyman, Mayo, Pacolet, Pacolet Mills, Pauline, Reidville, Roebuck, Southern Shops, Startex, Una, Wellford, Whitestone and Woodruff. We also serve Gaffney in Cherokee County. In western North Carolina we serve Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, Forest City, Rutherfordton, Spindale, Union Mills, Mill Spring, Tryon, Columbus and Green Creek. If you are near the edge of that, call and ask.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Gas Guys Plumbing & Heating LLC holds active plumbing licenses in South Carolina (#CLM 118059) and North Carolina (#L39015), covering our plumbing and gas piping work on both sides of the state line. The company is insured, and gas and plumbing work that needs a permit gets one.

Are you a plumber or a gas company?

Both, in the sense that matters. We are a full-service plumber for homes and businesses, and gas piping and gas appliances are our specialty. We do not sell or deliver gas. Your utility or propane supplier does that, and we handle everything on your side of the meter or tank.

How do I get a price?

Call or use the form. Our pricing is transparent and up front: many problems can be talked through on the phone, and photos help a lot with installs and replacements. For anything we need to see, we come out, find the problem and give you the price before any work starts, so there are no surprises on the bill.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We offer financing, and as a Piedmont Natural Gas Advantage Partner we can also offer financing through Piedmont Natural Gas for qualifying gas work, such as a new gas line or a switch from propane to natural gas. Approval and terms depend on the program, so ask when you call and we will go over the options before any work starts.

What payment do you accept?

We accept all payment types, and financing is available. Because you get the price before the work starts, you can sort out how you want to pay before we begin.

Do you do commercial plumbing?

Yes. We work for businesses and property owners as well as homeowners: emergency calls, drain and sewer lines, water heaters, fixtures, and gas piping and appliance hookups. The same 24/7 phone line and up-front pricing apply to commercial work.

FAQ

Emergencies

Still not sure? Call (864) 415-7482. A person answers 24/7.

I smell gas. What should I do?

Leave the house now and take everyone with you. Do not flip switches, use a phone, or start a car in the garage while you are inside. From outside and a safe distance, call 911 or your gas utility's emergency line. Once the utility has made it safe, call us to find and repair the leak on your side of the meter.

What counts as a plumbing emergency?

Anything that is actively damaging the house or leaves you without a working essential: a burst or leaking pipe you cannot shut off, sewage backing up, no water at all, a leaking water heater, or a gas smell. A dripping faucet or a slow drain can usually wait for a normal appointment.

How do I shut off the water while I wait?

Most Upstate houses have a main shutoff valve where the water line enters the house, often in the crawlspace or a utility room, and a curb valve in the meter box near the street. Turning the main valve clockwise closes it. If you cannot find it or it will not turn, tell us when you call and we will talk you through it.

The gas company shut off my meter. Can you get it back on?

The utility turns the meter back on, not us. What we do is find and repair the leak on your side of the meter, pressure-test the piping, and get it ready for the utility to restore service. Once they relight, every appliance needs to be relit and checked.

FAQ

Gas lines and gas appliances

Still not sure? Call (864) 415-7482. A person answers 24/7.

Does gas line work need a permit?

New gas piping and new gas appliance connections need a permit and an inspection from the city or county that covers your address. We pull the permit, pressure-test the line and meet the inspector.

Do you work on gas logs and gas fireplaces?

Yes, and we sell them. We sell and install gas log sets sized to your firebox, and we service the ones you have: logs that will not light or stay lit, seasonal restarts, pilot assemblies, thermocouples and thermopiles, and new gas lines and valves for log sets. A gas log that will not light is often a part, not a new fireplace.

Do you work on propane as well as natural gas?

We run and repair the piping and connect the appliances on propane systems as well as natural gas. Your propane supplier owns and maintains the tank and its regulators, so tank work goes through them. When a natural gas main reaches your road, we also handle the switch from propane to natural gas as a Piedmont Natural Gas Advantage Partner.

Can you hook up a standby generator to natural gas?

Yes. A standby generator needs a gas line sized for its full load, often a larger pipe than the house had, and sometimes a meter upgrade from the utility. We run and test the gas side; a licensed electrician handles the transfer switch and wiring.

FAQ

Water heaters

Still not sure? Call (864) 415-7482. A person answers 24/7.

Should I repair or replace my water heater?

A leaking tank is a replacement; the steel has failed and cannot be patched. Most other problems, like a pilot that will not stay lit, a bad thermostat or element, or a gas valve, are repairs, and they are usually worth doing on a heater that is not near the end of its life. We will tell you which side of that line yours is on.

Is a tankless water heater worth it?

It depends on how you use hot water and what your gas line can deliver. A tankless unit gives endless hot water and lasts longer than a tank, but it costs more to install and usually needs a bigger gas line and new venting. We will give you an honest comparison for your house.

How fast can you replace a water heater?

Common tank sizes can often be replaced quickly, and customers have had theirs swapped the same day they called. It depends on the unit, the venting and the parts on hand. Call and we will tell you what is realistic.

FAQ

Everyday plumbing

Still not sure? Call (864) 415-7482. A person answers 24/7.

My drain keeps clogging. Why?

A drain that clogs again and again usually has a reason further down the line: grease buildup, roots, a sag in the pipe, or a problem in the main line rather than the fixture. Clearing it is step one; finding out why it keeps happening is what stops the next call.

My water bill jumped. Do I have a leak?

Possibly. Turn off every fixture and look at your water meter. If the dial or the leak indicator is still moving, water is going somewhere. Running toilets are the most common cause; a leak under the house or in the yard line is the next.

Who is responsible for the water and sewer line in my yard?

Generally the utility owns the main and the meter, and the homeowner owns the pipe from the meter to the house and the sewer line from the house to the city tap. Those yard lines are ours to dig up and repair.
